Lesson Plans from Vernier’s Middle School Science with Computers: Lab 13 Boiling Water and Lab 14 Freezing Water

Preparation:

Prepare worksheets

Test equipment

Set up materials

Instruction:

This lesson has two labs – boiling point of water and freezing point of water. Students can do both or one can be done as a demonstration to show students how to use the technology and read the graph. Then students can do the other lab in partners or groups.

The key concepts are:

  1. Temperature graphs can be used to determine the boiling and freezing points of materials. These are 2 physical properties of matter.
  2. How to read and analyze a graph to answer a question.
  3. How to use technology to collect and analyze data.
Assessment:

Worksheet questions, quiz questions
