Staff Development Strategies

Write-Around

Description:
This strategy is a powerful way to get hesitant writers and speakers to give their opinion and build off the statements of others.
Directions:

Divide participants into table groups (four to eight people). Hand each participant a piece of paper/index card with a sentence stem, question or topic on it. You can generate the stems or questions or have each person write their own.

Examples:

I saw...
I heard...
During the opening...
During the closing...
I was energized when...
I liked…
I wished...
I wondered...
What if...?
How might we...?

Give each person exactly 30 seconds to write something related to the sentence stem, question or topic. Then, they pass the paper clockwise (or counter-clockwise) until each person in the group has responded on all the papers. Share out in small groups or whole groups. You can also use this to give feedback to a person about a workshop or presentation.
