We have a 1:1 iPad program for about 320 Freshman and Sophomore students.
Many of our teachers are using Google Docs with iPads in their classrooms. I use Google Docs extensively for my job and regularly in my Tech class (all students have iPads) and there are some limitations on the iPad.
It is much easier to use laptops or netbook devices with Google Docs. I'm not sure how an Android tablet works with Google docs, but I suspect that it runs a little more smoothly than on the iPads.
The Google Drive app for iPad is nice.
