Campfire Sketchnotes

Description:
Great protocol for an opener or discussion starter. From @kristenswanson.
Directions:

Depending on your group size, this strategy can be used whole group or in smaller groups. In a whole group situation, you can use an available white board and for smaller groups, use chart paper. Have plenty of markers on hand (either dry erase or regular).

  1. Give participants a prompt related to your workshop topic or some other discussion starter. The first person draws a sketch (can be one symbol/icon or several) that represents their thinking on that particular topic and tells a one-minute story to go along with it.
  2. The next person's sketch and story must connect to the previous person's who just went.
  3. Continue in this fashion until everyone in the group has had a turn to sketch and tell a story.
  4. You will then have a web of symbols and sketches about all the stories!
  5. Point out any themes or trends from all the sketchnotes to summarize the discussion.
