Test Error Round-About

Rachelle Campbell's picture
Description:
When faced with multiple errors shown by students, use this strategy to have students rework and explain the errors made by themselves and others.
Directions:

Thank you to my fellow math teacher Kelli Dotson!  I saw this in her classroom just a week ago.

Create stations around the room using a template similar to the one posted.  Create 7-10 stations.  On each station there is an often-made error from a recent test.  Have kids work in groups of 2-3 or individually. Each station is labeled with a letter or number (Roman numeral).

It is not necessary but once they begin, you may want kids to continue in alphabetical or numerical error, or clockwise motion, or some sense of organization for the movement of bodies in the room.

Move from group to group, asking kids who are stuck, "What do you know? How was the work wrong? Was it completely wrong? How could you explain that?" types of questions.

Collect their work at the end of class.
